GOOSE COUNTS

 

Regular goose counts started in Sweden in 1977/78 as a part of the International Goose Counts organized by Wetlands International (formerly IWRB). During 1997/78 to 1986/87 monthly counts were undertaken in October - April. The counts aimed to cover all sites used by Bean Geese, but all species were covered on all occassions.

 

From 1987/88 the Swedish counts include censuses in:

September Total count of all Greylag Goose sites
October Total count of all Bean Goose sites
November Bean Goose and other Anser species
January International midwinter count

All species are counted on all occassions even if the September counts aims to cover all Greylag sites and the October and November counts aims to cover all Bean Goose sites. For the results of the latest goose counts follow the links below:
